Lahontan Community Foundation

Background
Lahontan Community Foundation (LCF) was founded in 2002 by the members, homeowners and employees of the Lahontan Community.  We believe that the privilege we share of living, working and playing at Lahontan also brings a responsibility to give back to the larger local community we all enjoy so much.

Mission
Our mission is to bring the Lahontan community together, to have fun and raise as much money as we can to support the educational goals of Lahontan employees and the good works of local non-profit organizations making a difference in the Truckee-North Tahoe region.

15 Years of Giving
LCF has raised over $1.5 million in support of the LCF Community Grants, LCF Community Service Projects and Lahontan Employee Tuition Reimbursement Program since its inception in 2002.

The LCF Community Cup is our primary fundraising event each year.  This event started as a small golf tournament and has grown in scope over the years.  In addition to the Golf Tournament, Men’s and Women’s Tennis, Live Auction and Family Style Dinner, we gather for a Summer Stroll Sip and Shop event as well as the annual Pinewood Derby for Kids.

LCF Community Grants
LCF Community Grants offers an annual competitive grants cycle in the spring. In 2016, LCF awarded $112,000 to organizations in the field of human services, environment, education, and arts and culture.

Applications are received each March and reviewed and evaluated by the Grants Committee of the LCF Board, with support and guidance from the Parasol Tahoe Community Foundation.  LCF Community Grants are awarded and announced in June of each calendar year.

In 2016 Grants were awarded to:  Aim High, Barcelona Soccer Club, Boys & Girls Club, Family Resource Center of Truckee, Gateway Mountain Center, Girls on the Run, Humane Society of Truckee Tahoe, Lake Tahoe Music Festival, Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival, North Tahoe Family Resource Center, Pet Network, Sierra Senior Services, Slow Food Lake Tahoe, SOS Outreach, Sugar Pine Foundation, Tahoe Institute For Natural Science, Tahoe SAFE Alliance, Truckee Day.

Lahontan Employee Tuition Reimbursement Program
The dedicated and talented staff at Lahontan is our greatest asset, and the members of LCF are delighted to support them in achieving their educational goals.  Full and part-time employees are eligible for tuition reimbursement annually upon the successful completion of college courses.

LCF Annual Community Service Projects
Breakfast to Benefit Sierra Seniors
The first Sunday of every August is Lahontan Day at the Sierra Senior Center. The LCF Pancake Breakfast to Support the Sierra Seniors raised $1,700 in 2015 going direct to the Sierra Senior Center for needed improvements. Additionally the cost of the food is contributed annually by a Lahontan member. Lahontan members, led by Darla Whitehead, give generously of their time and energy as well as financially to make every year’s event a true success.

Truckee Day
Truckee Day is each and every year on the first Saturday in June. Rain, snow or shine, Lahontan members are among the attendees who show up to help clean the streets of Truckee and are rewarded with a barbecue lunch afterwards. Truckee Day provides an opportunity for everyone to be part of something positive and constructive. In 2015, Lahontan participants were among the 500+ volunteers who cleared nearly 2 tons of trash from local streets!
